Prior to coming to Northwell, I spent 5 years as a full-time psychologist at Rutgers Newark's Counseling Center, treating a diverse adult patients enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs (PhD, JD, MBA). I worked predominantly with students with anxiety, depression and related disorders.

While at the Rutgers CC, I received extensive training in CBT as a research clinician in a multi-site National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) research study, completed an additional certification in CBT from the University of Pennsylvania, and received two years of intensive training and supervision in multi-culturally competent counseling. In addition to these skills and experiences,  I completed Cognitive Processing Therapy training for PTSD (through the Strong Star Initiative and with Dr. Debra Kaysen - the therapist in NPR episode) and have intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trial-Based Cognitive Therapy. I current participate in weekly case consultation group in CPT with Dr. Kaysen at Stanford, attend grand rounds at Northwell's department of psychiatry, and participate in ongoing 1:1 professional development in CBT with Noah Clyman, LCSW, A-CBT, BICC.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS
APPROACH TO THERAPY

My approach to therapy is collaborative, warm, non-judgmental, and goal oriented. I use the most effective and evidence-based interventions to address my patient's problem areas and reach their goals. I view the treatment process as a partnership where my clients bring expertise gained throughout their life and their values and I serve as a teacher and guide in helping them get rapid relief from their symptoms, become more comfortable with being uncomfortable and gain the knowledge and skills needed to maintain their gains over time. My approach seeks to help clients make changes that are both meaningful and measurable.

While many therapists describe themselves as CBT clinicians, they often times only use component of CBT or follow the steps in a manual without understanding why components of treatment are done. Through my years of training and experience I have gain a deep understanding of the cognitive and behavioral theories that inform treatment. This expertise allows me to develop a case formulations and treatment plan that is uniquely tailored to you and guided by theory and most cutting-edge research from the field of psychological sciences.

In all of my interactions with my clients, I strive to operate from a place of multi-cultural competency and humility in an effort to create an affirming and validating environment for all of my patients, but especially those with marginalized identities (e.g. race, gender, sexual orientation, class, immigration status, religion, etc.).

While therapy is serious work, I firmly believe that it should also be fun! I bring a healthy sense of humor to my work and enjoy incorporating my favorite Netflix shows and pop culture references to help explain cognitive and behavioral concepts and techniques.
